Gear Demo: Way Huge Green Rhino

The Green Rhino MkII was re-released a while ago much to the delight of Way Huge fans, it is a classic style transparent Overdrive pedal with a couple of extra tone shaping controls to help you dial in the sound you want. Of course there are the main controls, the Volume, Tone, and Drive all using Way Huge’s gorgeous large smooth pots and as is customary for this pedal series two additional smaller pots that let you control a 100Hz EQ knob to cut or boost your low end by 12dB and a Curve control which Way Huge say fine-tunes the corner frequencies.

In my demonstration I am using the Way Huge Green Rhino with the clean channel of my Blackstar HT Stage 100 amp and cab which is loaded with Eminence Reignmaker Speakers and I used a single Audix i5 Mic, this is the classic setup for an Overdrive of this type but it is equally usable when used with an Overdrive amp setting to add extra sustain or to smooth out the tone. As you can hear you can do the classic tubescreamer style sounds by diming the volume and rolling off the drive and then you can use the 100Hz control to cut and boost to suit your guitar/amp combination, the tone control is also great for smoothing out your tone if your amp is a bit spikey and the Curve control further enhances this tone shaping in the upper mids.

The Green Rhino is great as a clean boost or a smooth creamy overdrive or for adding sustain and drive to your amp’s overdrive, it can do Texas Blues to Hard Rock and all without affecting your guitar’s natural tone. The Pedal is built like a tank with it’s Aluminium anodized chasis containing high grade components to ensure your signal is not coloured in any way, it has a True Hardwire Relay bypass and can be powered by either a 9v Battery using the easy access battery compartment or run on 9v DC as per my demo where I used my Sanyo Pedal Juice. The Green Rhino is a great addition to the Way Huge range which you can use in combination or addition to the Fat Sandwich distortion pedal for your higher gain needs and the Swollen Pickle for all your Fuzz needs to cover every possible tone in your head.
