A couple of weeks ago I was sent a press release about ‘Eagle Mountain Lock-it’ Guitar Straps which intrigued me so I asked if I could have a sample to review and the next thing I know 2 straps turn up on my doorstep! Now first of all let me clear up any confusion over the branding, the company who designed this product is a company called Lock-it Guitar Straps USA, they will however be made to their exact specifications and use the exact same snap lock technology in the UK and Europe by Eagle Mountain Strap Company and distributed by JHS.
Ok so onto the strap, the idea is very simple, the Lock-it strap has been designed to address a common problem - to stop your guitar coming loose from your guitar strap and potentially falling to the floor damaging your prized possession. Now the strap lock idea isn’t a new one in fact a few manufacturers have designed products to fix this issue but that usually means replacing your strap buttons, this clever device uses Slide-Lock Technology™ which allows you to fit the strap as you normally would while holding the lock open and then simply let go and it snaps into place. With larger strap buttons such as my Suhr Modern I needed to give it a little push to make sure it was seated correctly but I would do that everytime anyway just to make sure, you can see me do this in the video demonstration above. Once the strap was on and the snap lock was released and seated in place there was absolutely no worry of this ever coming off, I would quite happily attempt an over the shoulder Yngwie manoeuvre with my Suhr if I wasn’t scared about impaling my head with a pointy headstock!
Both the black nylon and brown leather straps that I was sent to review were of the highest quality, the leather one is the best strap I’ve ever tried it is amazingly soft on the underside yet feels tough enough to endure a lifetime of gigs and it looks really classy on the Suhr. There are plenty of designs and variations available so it won’t be an issue finding one to suit each of your guitars no matter what your taste is, just head over to the websites listed below and check out the full range.
